Linet & Vibwife: The electronics that are changing obstetrics

Website
Website

Linet has long been investing in innovation in the field of medical technology. When its Swiss partner company, Vibwife, aimed to bring a device supporting natural childbirth to market, it encountered limitations with the original prototype. The initial design was not suitable for mass production and was too expensive.

Linet decided to rework the entire product and engaged us thanks to our expertise in medical electronics development.

Projekt v číslech
Solution

The collaboration began with a joint evaluation of the motor units – we analyzed various drive types, tested their properties, and sought the optimal solution in terms of performance, size, and cost.

Linet took charge of the mechanical development, while we designed and delivered the complete electronics – from firmware development to cloud integration.

Our solution included:

▪️Design and production of the control electronics

▪️Firmware development to ensure safe and smooth operation

▪️Cloud communication via embedded SIM card

▪️Device integration with Power BI and connection to the invoicing system via API

▪️Ensuring certifications according to both European and U.S. medical device standards

The device is fully autonomous in terms of components – it includes its own processors, drivers, and power source. As part of the birth mat, it functions independently from the hospital bed itself.

Result

The outcome is a product ready for mass production, meeting the strict requirements of medical environments while providing maximum comfort to women during childbirth.

Thanks to optimized design, production costs were reduced, and manufacturing efficiency was increased.

Additionally, the system is linked to a usage-based billing model – enabled by its connection to the cloud and invoicing system.

The client appreciated our proactive and product-oriented approach. Together, we created a solution that plays a vital role in modern obstetrics.

Challenges
and learnings

The development of medical electronics entails specific challenges — from detailed risk analyses to compliance with standards and the creation of comprehensive documentation. Moreover, this time we dealt with certification not only for Europe, but also for the US market.

Debugging LTE communications remotely was also a challenge -- each device includes a SIM card and sends data to the cloud. Functionality also had to be verified in the US environment, which required an unconventional approach.

Thanks to the project, we have deepened our know-how in the field of medical devices and strengthened our capabilities as an exclusive supplier of complete electronics for the medical segment.
